Who is Batman's Least Known Villain?

The Batman: Gollum in the film with Robert Pattinson

With Robert Pattinson, the new Batman is finally certain, but it is still unknown who will play his opponent. But now it is suspected that an actor known from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings could take on the role of a villain.

After Ben Affleck leaves the Batman cast as a director and actor, the latest version of The Batman shouldn't have much to do with the DC classic. For him, Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson, who will take on the role of Batman, are now directors. Andy Serkis is also said to be one of the new villains under discussion.

Warner is not planning just one opponent for Robert Pattinson. There is now an article on the Batman on Film blog page that sees Andy Serkis as an option for one of the roles. However, this is only a first rumor, which is supposed to be based on very reliable sources. The exact role for Serkis has not yet been determined, if you can again believe other sources, Pinguin, Catwoman, Riddler and also Two-Face are traded as possible villains.

Blog writer Bill Ramey assumes that Andy Serkis will not take on the role as the penguin because a younger actor is to be cast here. Nevertheless, neither the roles of the penguin alias Oswald Cobblepot, nor those of the other villains have been confirmed for the film so far.

Andy Serkis is best known for his CGI roles such as Gollum from Lord of the Rings or Snoke in Star Wars. As a “normal” actor, however, Serkis has not appeared that often. So it may be a good thing that he is already familiar with director Matt Reeves, because Batman would not have a virtual character for him.

Ramey names the Riddler and the Mad Hatter as possible roles for Andy Serkis. The Riddler was last seen in Batman Forever, released in 1995, played by Jim Carrey at the time. In addition, we don't necessarily have to expect that Serkis will play a role as a villain, so he could just as easily take on the role of Alfred or Jim Gordon.

Whether this is just wild speculation or whether there is really something to the rumors remains to be seen in the future. In any case, in our opinion, Andy Serkis would be a good complement to Robert Pattinson, whether in a role as a villain or not. The film will open in the USA on June 25, 2021, but a German theatrical release is not yet known.
