Diaries and texts by Brigitte Reimann

"I am young, I am sensual and quickly inflamed. I am terribly afraid of aging. Why should I not enjoy my life? It will all be over in ten or 20 years - if I do not die earlier," wrote Brigitte Reimann in 1955 22 years.

Brigitte Reimann writes about the cultural scene behind the Iron Curtain (AP)

She greedily plunges into life, reaches its limits, tries to transcend them. In private, in politics. Love crises, marital crises, political disillusionment and again and again a new beginning with yourself. She rejected her earlier books like "failed children". However, she found continuity in the writing of her diaries, which have survived from 1955 to 1970. An unvarnished interior description of the GDR cultural scene and at the same time the "journal intime" of a woman hungry for life.
