II Appendix: The Book of Jeremiah - Overview

1 Introduction

In my exegesis I deal with the calling of Jeremiah (Jer 1,4-10). I chose a text from the Old Testament (OT) because I am currently dealing with the OT. I am interested in Jeremiah's strong awareness of his calling.

2. Selection of the translation and explanations of terms

First I am doing the translation of the Luther Bible, 1984, the Zürcher, 1955 as well as a translation of the Septuagint (LXX) and the rev. Elberfeld Bible 1993. Then I will compare words, phrases and sentences, making the comparison with the rev. Elberfeld Bible do.

Translations "Jeremiah's Call"

Luther

4 And the word of the Lord came to me:
5 I knew you, before I prepared you in the womb, and separated you before you were born of the mother, and ordered you to the prophet for the peoples.
6 But I said: Oh, Mr Lord, I am not fit to preach; because I am too young.
7 The Lord spoke but to me: do not say: "I am too young", but you should go wherever I am sending you, and preach everything I command you
8 Do not be afraid of them; for I am with you and will deliver you, saith the Lord.
9 And the Lord stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and said to me, See! I put my words in your mouth.
10 See, I will set you this day over peoples and kingdoms, to break up and break up, to destroy and spoil should and build and plant.

Zurich 1955

4 And the word of the Lord came to me:
5 Before I formed you in my mother's womb, I chose you; Before you emerged from the womb, I consecrated you: a prophet for the peoples I have determined you.
6 Then I said: Oh Lord, my God, I understand Yes not to talk; I am still too young.
7 But The Lord answered me: Do not say “I am still too young”, but you will go to all to whom I send you and you will do everything I command you you talk
8 Do not be afraid of them; for I am with you to save you, says the Lord.
9 And the Lord reached out and touched my mouth. And he said to me: With that I put my words in your mouth.
10 Behold, I am setting you today over the peoples and over the kingdoms to pluck up and tear down, to destroy and destroy, to plant and build up.
