(Bad Honnef) - The prefabricated house industry remains on record course in the Corona year 2020. Just like the numbers of building permits, the results of the annual economic survey by the Federal Association of German Prefabricated Buildings (BDF) among house manufacturers confirm the continuing boom in prefabricated wooden houses.

From January to July 2020 - that is how far the official building permit numbers go - 60,922 single and two-family houses were approved nationwide, 13,370 of which were prefabricated. This corresponds to a market share of 21.9 percent. Compared to the same period in the previous year, the number of building permits rose by a total of 2.6 percent, while prefabricated buildings increased significantly by 9.6 percent. "We expect a market share of around 22 percent for 2020. We will be able to significantly increase the previous all-time high of 20.8 percent from the previous year," says BDF President Hans Volker Noller.

The majority of prefabricated houses in Germany are produced and built by the 49 industrial manufacturers of the BDF and their employees. Short-time working does not play a role in the industry. Even the opposite is the case, explains Noller. "Our house manufacturers will employ around 300 more people in 2020 than in 2019." The total number of employees in the BDF companies should increase by 2 percent to around 14,700 employees.

The prefabricated house manufacturers are expecting another high in terms of industry turnover this year. According to the current forecast by the BDF, this will increase by around 5 percent to over 3.2 billion euros. The BDF companies rate not only the current business situation, but also the outlook as positive almost without exception. According to 86 percent of those surveyed, the current business situation is good. 14 percent rate it as satisfactory. In the next six months, 78 percent expect business conditions to remain the same, 4 percent expect the economy to deteriorate and 18 percent to expect an even better economic situation. "The appreciation for your own house with a garden has risen again this year. We would like to contribute to paving the way for many families, couples and singles willing to build a high-quality home," emphasized the BDF President in conclusion.
