Why the offspring benefit from working mothers

Mothers who get back to work quickly after pregnancy still have to struggle with prejudice and criticism in Germany. Completely wrong, because: Studies have shown that children in particular, where both parents work, have better prospects for the future.

Even the early childcare does not harm the children. It is optimal to look after the children at home for the first year of life. After that, a care period of up to 30 hours per week is okay. The prerequisite is high-quality care with a low care ratio in small groups, which is provided by qualified staff.

Don't have a guilty conscience!

Children feel the emotional state of their parents with their fine antennae. If mothers who want to combine child and career have a guilty conscience, it is counterproductive for the development of the children. You should therefore make it clear to yourself that it is okay if you put your child in qualified care for a few hours a day, and what benefits everyone can derive from it. Because the family's higher standard of living not only makes many amenities possible, it is also an opportunity for children to enjoy more diverse leisure activities and better support outside of school.

Remember: you are a role model

The everyday working life of both partners should be exemplified for children from an early age. Young girls in particular learn that work and family are compatible. By the way: families in which both partners work usually have a more balanced distribution of roles than families in which one parent is responsible for the household and the other for financial security. Partners of working mothers are more involved in household chores and child-rearing activities. In such families, little boys and girls learn that it is normal for both mum and dad to do their chores in the household, raising children and at work, and they benefit from having two equally competent contact persons.

Working mothers are happier

The various studies show that women who do not give up their job are on average more satisfied than those who stay at home because of their children. This satisfaction leads to a more balanced parenting style and a more harmonious family life - two important prerequisites for good school performance of the offspring and their healthy psychological development. So the combination of child and career usually results in happy mothers and fathers with stable children. Provided that the care of the children works smoothly.

Child and career: companies are in demand

So a lot depends on how well working life can be combined with parenthood. Here, companies can do a lot to help their female team leaders or executives to optimally organize their children and careers. A company-owned day care center creates a stress-free morning and helps the mother to work longer hours. Special emergency care systems come into play when children fall ill and parents are busy at work. Many companies also rely on cooperation with other providers in order to offer additional childcare options during the holiday periods and thus relieve the parents of time. Companies that are open to flexible working time models, job sharing and home office have a good chance of continuing to employ their female managers as mothers.
