Modeling Successful Processes is the third article on the modeling topic after Modeling Successful Project Leaders and Modeling Successful Projects. The focus here is even more on repeatability, since processes in themselves are already repetitive operations, while projects, by definition, have a unique character. The basic goal of modeling in NLP is to gain knowledge about successful procedures in order to make them reproducible and transferable to other situations or people. In relation to people, their beliefs, strategies, states and meta-programs are examined. Since processes are always lived or designed by people, it is also worthwhile to deal with people. The consideration can now take place on the direct level, i.e. the above-mentioned aspects of the people in the processes. In addition, the consideration can also be carried out indirectly on a meta-level, i.e. the procedure is modeled that is used by people who model processes.


Useful beliefs in process modeling are, for example, the assumptions in NLP. "The map is not the area”Reflects the fact that process documentation, for example, does not necessarily reflect the actual process. "There is a positive intention behind all behavior”Gives composure in dealing with deviations from process norms. This presumption can also initiate the questioning of deviations, similar to "People always make the best decisions they can”Can refer to the fact that, for example, there are information or communication deficits and that certain decisions are therefore made that are less useful from other points of view.


Appropriate strategies for approaching process modeling are definitely useful. Appropriate strategies are trained in the Six Sigma and Lean Management training courses. However, doing this here would go beyond the scope.


A useful state of the process modeler is given by open sensory channels towards the communication of those involved in the process (e.g. in process workshops), i.e. he should perceive the communicative expressions of the people involved on the visual, auditory and possibly kinaesthetic sensory channels without the effect of these neglect on his own person. In addition, it is helpful to be able to put the workshop participants involved in the modeling into resource-rich states.

Meta programs

As a process modeler, it is usually useful for the attention and reference mainly with those involved in the process, instead of with oneself. The same applies to the Necessities, those with their formative structures, routines and rules, which depict the essence of processes better than the possibilities. Also a more team-oriented Work style is more suitable than that lonerwho can hardly examine the procedures in the processes in the “quiet little room” and cannot fall back on the knowledge of those involved. With the meta program "global / specific”It depends on the phase of a process mapping. At the beginning, the global view of the activities is certainly more suitable, while for the detailed modeling, specific approaches are more likely to come into play. In the field of tension between perfection and optimization the useful expression depends heavily on the context. Common sense is required here in the weighing up. Extreme manifestations are usually not that helpful. The same applies to the meta programs of the Fulfillment / completion and completeness. With the meta program procedural / optional on the other hand, the procedural approach is clearly in the foreground (this is already expressed in the name relationship) as well as structured and planned Procedures through the corresponding meta programs. In the case of knowledge acquisition, the Modeling, Explanation and Demonstration in the foreground while the Experience and authority are rather cumbersome procedures for the process modeler.


In simple terms, processes can be modeled more easily with NLP knowledge than without. In many cases, the above-mentioned training also provides appropriate know-how, even if this is probably only rarely done under the term NLP. The knowledge of the corresponding NLP aspects and their use can make the modeling of processes more successful and brings more flexibility to the procedure.
