How do you meditate personally
5 tips to make it easier for you to meditate on a regular basis.
The most important thing in meditating is continuity.
In order to feel these positive effects in the long term, it is crucial that you meditate regularly. The most important thing in meditation, in my opinion, is continuity. Here are 5 tips to help you meditate more easily on a regular basis:
1. Meditate with an app: You can easily learn to meditate with an app. I personally use Headspace and Insight Timer. Both apps teach you the basic techniques; but are also suitable for those who already have meditation experience.
2. Find a rhythm that works for you: Meditate several times a day, once a day, or a few times a week. It is important that you have a plan for when and how often to meditate. For me the rhythm works very well every day. However, it is possible that a different rhythm will suit your lifestyle better.
3. Meditate at the same time if possible: Your meditation will become much easier to become a habit if you always meditate at the same time of day. It will also be easier for you to plan your meditation in everyday life if you know in advance how long you want to meditate. I've found for myself that I prefer to meditate for 15 minutes right after getting up. However, a different time and duration may suit you better.
4. Combine your meditation into a routine: Meditating regularly is easier once it's part of a regular routine. You could couple several habits. For example, you could meditate in the morning right after brushing your teeth or in the evening just before you get ready for bed. Personally, I like it best when I meditate in the morning after brushing my teeth and before breakfast.
5. Be sure of the techniques: There are various ways to help you remain mindful during meditation. Here you will find an overview of the different techniques. My favorites are the body scan, a breathing exercise in which I count my breaths and a visualization.
