Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) is an educational institution of the Ministry of Food Processing Industry (MoFPI) in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The institute offers academic and research programs in the field of food processing technology. The institute has a food quality testing laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), which is also informed about the Referral Food Laboratory of the Indian Food Safety Authority and Standards (FSSAI). The Food Products Development Laboratory, Food Microbiology Laboratory, Post-Harvest Pest Control Laboratory, Food Processing Incubation Center, and Food Engineering Laboratories are located on the main campus in Thanjavur. IIFPT has liaison offices in Guwahati, Assam and Bathinda, Punjab. These liaison offices have facilities to provide training, incubation and advisory services to farmers, entrepreneurs and students in the field of agricultural value creation and food processing technologies. V. Subrahmanyan, a distinguished scientist and former director of the CSIR - Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, founded the Paddy Processing Research Center (PPRC) in 1967 with the aim of providing farmers with solutions for maintaining high moisture rice. Given the need for R&D efforts in the processing, preservation and value creation of raw agricultural products after harvest, the Department of Food Industry (MoFPI) upgraded the PPRC and renamed it the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT) February 2008. Apart of R&D activities, the IICPT has been offering academic and research programs in the field of food processing technology since 2009. As the scope of the institute has expanded from post-harvest processing to adding value to agricultural products, it was renamed the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology in March 2017. The institute is located in Thanjavur, the ancient capital of the Chola dynasty. The IIFPT has well-equipped laboratories and deals with research and development of post-harvest technologies, food processing, value creation, use of by-products, processes and product development. The IIFPT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees in food technology and related fields. All academic programs are affiliated with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
