A tactical game with Mario in the lead role and then a crossover with the Rabbids from Ubisoft? When the game was announced in 2017, few fans could have imagined that this concept would work. However, these fears were eliminated with the first gameplay scenes and even more so with the first play. The turn-based gameplay, in which Mario and his colleagues use cover and have to stalk opponents in order to fight them, works wonderfully. The charm of the Mario and Rabbids universe could be perfectly combined. In addition, the soundtrack by rare composer Grant Kirkhope is unbeatable.

7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Yes, it is just a remake of the Wii U game "Mario Kart 8", but the mere ability to play this game on the go and anywhere justifies the purchase again. The game has been upgraded in terms of graphics and scope, contains new game modes and drivers and runs smoothly at all times, even in the Switch's handheld mode. In addition, the Mario Kart gameplay is simply unparalleled in racing games.

6. Splatoon 2

"Splatoon 2" - 49.99 euros on Amazon *

Splatoon 2 is a consistent further development of the debut on the Wii U. Almost nothing was changed in the gameplay, but there was no reason to do so due to the ingenuity of the first part and the huge number of players on the Wii U and now on the Switch. The multiplayer rush has remained unbroken to this day. No wonder, you have never seen such original and wacky shooting on consoles, which are also suitable for families due to their non-violence.

5. Super Mario Maker 2

"Animal Crossing: New Horizons" - 48.57 euros on Amazon *

If there's such a thing as the perfect time for a video game to be released, it was definitely March 2020 for the latest installment in the Animal Crossing series. Just at lockdown time, gamers received a game that featured a Motivated for a very long period of time in that there is always something new to discover. In fact, you could have fun with it for months or years. Expanding and decorating your apartment and island, interacting with the neighbors and inviting your friends to your island just never gets boring. 2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" - 54.99 euros on Amazon *

As much as “Animal Crossing” hit in 2020, it won't come close to the two undisputed best games for Switch in 2021 either. As expected, it was again a head-to-head race between the two best Nintendo Switch games. The Switch debut of the "The Legend of Zelda" series sends the protagonist Link into his greatest adventure to date, which takes place 10,000 years after the events of the previous Zelda parts. Once again it is important to save Princess Zelda, but this is now happening in a huge, open game world. Instead of the classic dungeons, players have to conquer numerous shrines here, all of which are provided with puzzles and tests. The highlight of this game, however, are the numerous options given to gaming fans. So the path, the missions and the pace of the plot can be decided individually as soon as the game starts.

1. Super Mario Odyssey

"Super Mario Odyssey" - 49.99 euros on Amazon *

It was close, but for us the debut of Super Mario on the Switch is still the best game in 2021. As always, Mario has to save Princess Peach from Bowser, but this happens in a completely revised and wacky scenario with huge, expansive levels. The themes of the levels are so new and unusual that die-hard Mario fans will get a real culture shock. Among other things, Mario jumps and puzzles his way through a real, lifelike city with real people. Thanks to a lively cap, Mario can also take over almost all opponents and play as a giant dinosaur, for example. The numerous crazy ideas and (finally again) open levels make "Super Mario Odyssey" the best game for the Nintendo Switch.
